Winter is a time for cozyness and fireplaces lit while we watch movies and listen to the rain falling. It is also a time where people get sick the most! Viruses keep moving from one person  to another and most often than not, we end up catching at least one of those.

Being that I haven’t had an actual cold or flu in the past years, I wanted to share with you 3 natural ways to boost your immune system and not catch the flu this winter!

Nature gives us everything we need if we pay enough attention to it and there is no coincidence about what is in season during the winter time : they are here to help us beat the season’s illness.

What I use : Hurom DA-1000

1. Carrot juice :

This one is my favourite! I drink it all year long and it has all kinds of benefits from Vitamin C, D, E and K, as well as many minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium. Its antioxydants go straight to detoxifying the liver which, if you didn’t know, clears the blood of toxic substances.

For this juice, you need (1 serving) :

– 2 Carrots

– Half a lemon

– 3 little cubes of Fresh Ginger

2. Cucumber & Lemon :

Cucumber is thought to be a vegetable but it is actually a fruit. It is one of the best sources of hydration when drinking water is not your forté. The average human body has 50-65% of water content and one average cucumber is 96% water. So all it is doing is helping your body refresh itself and hydrate. Something we can all use while we don’t drink enough water during the colder months.

In addition to being a great source of Vitamin C, Lemon contains flavonoids which are a by-product for antioxydants and cancer-fighting elements. It is good for the skin, the hair and overall body.

Ginger, to mention a few, actually helps heat up the body in the colder months and fight disease. If you happen to have a cold, drink hot water with a cube of fresh ginger or even ground ginger works.

For this juice, you need (2.5 servings) :

– 2 Cucumbers

– Half a lemon

– 1 Carrot

– 3 cubes of Fresh Ginger

3. Beetroot & Turnips :

This was a good one. Although I would suggest half a turnip but if you can bare the taste (btw, it’s sweet, nothing disgusting), go ahead and use a whole one.

I wanted to include a turnip because it is a magic trick during the cold days, trust me. They are very loved in Asian & Mediteranean cuisine.

Not to bore you with scientific terms, Turnips have anti-oxydants that are natural cancer fighters. They also have incredible amount of Vitamin K that target Cardio-vascular issues.

We all struggle with loss of activity when it gets cold. So we stuff our faces with comfort food to cozy up in front of the fireplace. However, beetroot helps with Oxygen flow in the blood as well as blood flow to your muscles after a workout. If you are like me and your 8 hours-job requires you to be sat at a desk all day long, then beetroot can help you with an enhanced digestive tract because of its high fiber content.

For this juice, you need (2 servings) :

– 2 Beetroots

– 1 Carrot

– 1 Turnip

& Voilà ! Enjoy all winter long !
